21st August, 2026 GEORGETOWN – The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) considers it necessary to provide clarification concerning the matters raised publicly by the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Party in relation to the appointment of scrutineers and the Commission's involvement in that process, as well as the issue of nomination and appointment of Members of the Commission. GECOM recognizes the legitimate public interest in these matters and considers it important that all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, electors and the wider public, be fully informed of the circumstances and the respective roles and responsibilities of the parties involved. It necessary to place on record that the Chief Election Officer has, at all times, responded to correspondence received from the WIN Party with alacrity, accuracy, specificity and professionalism. Each matter has been addressed in accordance with the statutory authority vested in the Chief Election Officer and the limitations imposed upon that office by law.
